Home for Mentally Retarded (14–35 years)
Amma Illam extends its care beyond childhood by running a residential home for young adults between 14 and 35 years with intellectual disabilities. This initiative provides them with continued support, structured training and a safe environment where they can live with dignity and purpose.
Admission & Care
- Open for individuals aged from 14 to 35 years who require long-term guidance.
- Residents undergo periodical medical check-ups to monitor health and well-being.
- A nurturing environment is maintained to ensure safety, comfort and emotional support.
Training in Self-help Skills
To encourage independence, students are guided in everyday activities such as:
- Personal hygiene and self-cleaning.
- Bathing and dressing without assistance.
- Communication through speaking and writing.
- Participation in household chores and community tasks.
Vocational & Productive Activities
Residents are provided with vocational opportunities that allow them to learn, practice and contribute:
- Nursery Gardening – caring for plants and maintaining greenery.
- Bakery Works – preparing simple baked items.
- Paper Bag & Notebook Making – eco-friendly crafts for practical use.
- Handicrafts & Drawing Exercises – enhancing creativity and fine motor skills
